Jason Bateman and Jason Sudeikis star in this comedy about three friends, tormented by their self-centred and cruel employers, who see no way of escape other than to kill their bosses, but carrying out their plans proves to be more complicated than anticipated.
Good friends Nick (Jason Bateman), Kurt (Jason Sudeikis) and Dale (Charlie Day) have much in common, but the issue of their horrendous bosses is something they wish they didn't. Nick's egotistical employer, Dave Harken (Kevin Spacey) makes his life miserable by pretending to offer a promotion which is then denied, Kurt's boss Jack Pellitt (Donald Sutherland) is replaced by his obnoxious son Bobby (Colin Farrell) after he dies, while Dale struggles with his female boss, dentist Julia Harris (Jennifer Aniston), who sexually harasses him and threatens blackmail. One night, the three friends concoct a scheme over drinks to bump off the bosses, and they track down a criminal named Jones (Jamie Foxx) who advises them to not kill their own bosses, but each other's to disguise the motive. As the inexperienced killers start to put their plans into action, the flaws in their ideas result in a series of mishaps that create headaches all round.
