Stephen Curry and Daniel MacPherson star in the emotional true story of Australian jockeys Damien and Jason Oliver and their involvement with the 2002 Melbourne Cup, co-written and directed by Phar Lap director Simon Wincer, which also features veteran actor Bill Hunter in his final screen performance. Having grown up around the racetrack with their jockey father Ray (Andrew Curry), brothers Jason (Daniel MacPherson) and Damien (Stephen Curry) follow him into the profession despite his tragic death at the track in their youth. Working hard and supporting each other unreservedly, the pair quickly head towards career success, but it is Damien who is the standout performer. As his experience grows, Damien aims towards the ultimate achievement in racing, and his dream appears about to come true when Irish trainer Dermot Weld (Brendon Gleeson) taps him to ride the spirited Media Puzzle in the 2002 Melbourne Cup. After the tragedy of the Bali bombings in October 2002, the excitement of the Cup is a welcome distraction for a grieving nation, but just days before the race, an overwhelming personal calamity engulfs Damien and his family, and puts his cherished goal in jeopardy.
