Paul Rudd and Elizabeth Banks star in this quirky comedy focusing on the life of an eccentric optimist which continually goes pear-shaped, and his long-suffering sisters who agree to help him out, but in doing so, chaos inadvertently enters their lives too. With his perennially sunny outlook and unwavering belief in the good side of everyone he meets, Neil (Paul Rudd) leads a somewhat charmed life as a farmer of organic vegetables, and even a stint in jail fails to dent his optimism. When he rejoins the world, his girlfriend (Kathryn Hahn) gives him the boot, and Neil is homeless until his three sisters Liz (Emily Mortimer), Natalie (Zooey Deschanel) and Miranda (Elizabeth Banks) resignedly agree to take turns in offering him a place to stay. As the results of Neil's pathological honesty begin to impact on the sisters' romantic relationships and work situations, they each come to the limit of their patience, but despite their frustrations, they come to realise that Neil's flaws may also be his greatest assets.
