Harry Connick Jr. and Ashley Judd star in this heart-warming drama based on the amazing true story of a young boy who finds an injured dolphin and nurtures her back to health against incredible odds with the help of a doctor who specialises in prosthetics.
Riding his bike near the beach, a young boy named Sawyer (Nathan Gamble) comes across a dolphin whose tail has been caught in a crab pot. He helps get the dolphin to the local marine hospital, where Dr Clay Haskett (Harry Connick Jr) and his daughter Hazel (Cozi Zuelsdorf) take care of her. Hazel names the dolphin Winter, and Sawyer begins to skip school to come and visit her, which upsets his mother (Ashley Judd) as he is already struggling at school. When Winters injury does not improve, Dr Clay realises that the dolphin’s tail has to be amputated. Soon after, Sawyer meets Dr Cameron McCarthy, a prosthetics expert, when he visits his injured cousin (Austin Stowell). Sawyer approaches Dr McCarthy about helping Winter, which he initially dismisses, but when the doctor meets the dolphin and sees the bond between the boy and Winter, he decides to take a leap and help her.
