In his follow-up to the award-winning The Station Agent, Tom McCarthy directs this poignant and funny story starring Oscar nominee Richard Jenkins (Six Feet Under) as disillusioned economics professor Walter Vale, whose life is transformed by a chance encounter in New York.
Walter has lost his passion for teaching and writing so he just drifts through life, filling his days with learning the piano, unsuccessful though it may be. When his Connecticut college sends him to a conference in Manhattan, he finds a young couple have taken over his apartment, the victims of a real estate scam. Tarek (Haaz Sleiman) and Zainab (Danai Gurira) have nowhere else to go.
Walter reluctantly allows them to stay and as their friendship deepens, the differences in culture, age and temperament fall away.
